Description
For anyone who keeps a keen eye on my work over the years they know that Worlcombe is a very special island in my eye. This rocky shoreline with little outcrops and weathered trees is one of the most featured islands in my paintings. There are numerous angles to Worlcombe that provide a remarkable background of Howe Sound- and this is one of the best!
The eastern tip of the island offers almost a 360 degree panorama of the Sound: from the open waters of Georgia Strait with Vancouver Island in the distance, the Pasley Islands and Sunshine Coast over to Mt. Garibaldi and the Sea to Sky Mountains, Keats, Gambier, Anvil and Bowen. Even downtown Vancouver and UBC can be seen in the distance from this special place.
In this tranquil painting we look northwest over the edge of Worlcombe towards Pasley and Keats, with Tetrahedron Provincial Park in the background. The colors are subdued in a calm pre-sunset palette of purple and yellow, and the shadows of the island highlight one of the many unique trees that can be found here.
