Description

The Black Tusk, also known as Q̓elqámtensa ti Skenknápa in the St’at’imcets (Lillooet) language and as T’ákt’akmúten tl’a Ín7inyáx̱a7en in the Sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish) language, is a pinnacle of volcanic rock located in Garibaldi Provincial Park, BC.

It is a remnant of an extinct stratovolcano which formed approximately 1 million years ago and is part of the Garibaldi Volcanic Belt and Canadian Cascade Arc. The iconic shape of the Tusk is due to the soft and loose cinder having been eroded by glaciation leaving behind the hard lava core.
