Description
On a calm summer evening a pod of Orca swim through the Salish Sea. Stretching from Desolation Sound in British Columbia south to Puget Sound in Washington State, the Salish Sea also encompasses the bodies of water known as Georgia Straight and the Straight of Juan de Fuca. This region is home to the Southern Resident Killer Whale (or SRKW for short). These whales are a unique subspecies of a larger population of Orcinus orca found in the Northeastern Pacific Ocean and form tight family groups that eat chinook salmon.
In this scene we see members of the Southern Resident group K-Pod heading south through the Salish Sea, with the Gulf Islands and larger Vancouver Island in the background. Set against the warm golden colors of sunset, with contrasting blues and purples of the impending night.
