On the shores of Saxe Point you will find a huge variety of ocean life, from the orange Sunburst Lichen (Xanthoria parietina), to Great Blue Herons (Ardea herodias), Glaucous-winged Gulls (Larus glaucescens) and Black Oystercatchers (Haematopus bachmani); to (if you are lucky!) Biggs or Resident Orcas (Orcinus orca).

Description
Saxe Point, on the traditional territory of the Xʷsepsəm (Lekwungen/Songhees) sister Nations, sits at the edge of an intricate system of waterways. These consist of (but are not limited to) the Esquimalt Lagoon, Colwood Creek, Esquimalt Harbour and the Gorge Waterway. This watershed is a complex system of creeks, streams, lagoons, tidal estuaries and oceanic shorelines. Being located on the eastern mouth of the main channel into the Salish Sea this region is teeming with life that entirely depends on the health of this unique body of water.
The area that is home to Saxe Point Park overlooks the mountains of the Olympic Peninsula located over 18 km across the Salish Sea. From the Northern Islands of Quadra and Cortes, to the mighty Fraser River, to Puget Sound and the Nisqually River in Washington State the Salish Sea acts as a hardworking hydrological pump to bringing life to the entire region, cycling through even the smallest tidepools and tributaries in the Esquimalt Watershed.
