In 2018, a female killer whale known officially as J35, or commonly as Tahlequah, gave birth to a calf that only lived an hour. Tahlequah’s grief made international headlines as she pushed and carried her dead calf through her summer feeding grounds in the Salish Sea for 1600 kilometres over 17 days. The sale of this wine supports work to reduce threats to this tightly bonded population of critically endangered Southern Resident killer whales. They require less noise and more wild salmon within their critical habitat to survive. www.raincoast.org/killer-whales

A sign of hope, J35 is pictured with her new calf J57 (Phoenix), born in 2020. This original artwork was created and gifted to the cause by Di, a local artist on Bowen Island, BC
