Inspired by beautiful Atl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound, British Columbia, my contemporary acrylic paintings reflect the majestic beauty of this special place. It is western Canada’s southernmost fjord- a place born of volcanic activity and sculpted by the icy flow of glaciers.
Located just north of Vancouver, BC, you will pass through Howe Sound as you drive along the Sea to Sky highway from Horseshoe Bay towards Squamish and Whistler. Framed by mountain ranges on either side the fjord also hosts many islands and island groups: Bowen Island (my home!), Gambier, Anvil, Bowyer, Passage, Hutt, Keats and the Pasleys lslands. (Pasley, Worlcombe, Mickey, Ragged, Hermit Popham and Little Popham).
After moving to Bowen Island in 2012 I became so inspired by the beauty of this place I had to paint it. And so began my journey into the life of an artist! My paintings reflect the calm and serenity I find here. I hope my art helps to share what I love and promote the protection of this remarkable landscape.
Stay tuned for new paintings of Howe Sound being released for my upcoming solo exhibition in July – Art for Sea To Sky: Exploring the Nature, Science and Beauty of Atl’ka7tsem/Howe Sound. On from July 8th – Aug 2nd 2021 at the Hearth Gallery on Bowen Island. In benefit of the Howe Sound/Atl’ka7tsem Marine Reference Guide.
Howe Sound is within the traditional unceded territory of the Squamish (
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh) people, and borders Sechelt, Musquem and Tseil-Waututh territories. I acknowledge that I live and work on these lands.
